Brothers and Sisters:
In our job, we have the opportunity to have an exciting career and enjoy ourselves. In addition, we treat each other fairly and with respect. With that said we here at Local 798 congratulate Hank Smith on his retirement. He always played his role as Chief by the book, was clear on attention to details, and was fair. The best of Chief Smiths character was at a fire scene. He knew his job and with the look in his eyes and confidence at a working fire you knew you and your crew were in good hands. Hank retired June 28th, like many of our brothers, with a lot of fire experience. Good Luck. Many Union members attended a Committee meeting held at the Board of Supervisors in June. There is an argument on both sides regarding the staffing of Fire Engines with a paramedic. What is crystal clear to me is that the Fire Department cannot be in the position to put someone on an engine who has not |

| received the same training component as the brothers and sisters riding with him. If we agree with the statement Our common welfare should come first how could anyone agree to put individuals with minimal training on Engines and Trucks? It makes no sense. Forget the phrase what about me and replace it with what about us.
Our contract negotiations are going through the process. As you are aware of, we have meetings scheduled through July and updates will be given at the July and August meetings. Keep the Faith |
