WELCOME
By Jim Vannucchi, Director
The Executive Board of the SAN FRANCISCO FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL 798 would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our first edition of the “new” MAIN LINE. As you can see, it’s a short newsletter, which means, to the joy of many, my article will be short.

Members will receive this format of the MAIN LINE in odd months; in even months you will receive the traditional publication. These issues will augment our website, www.sffdlocal798.org, which we ask that you access for timely information regarding labor issues. Further, please take a moment or two to forward your e-mail address to Stan Lee at stan-lee@pacbell.net so that we can keep you apprised of events that require your immediate attention.

CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS

As of this printing, Local 798 is still at the bargaining table with The City. As the issues to a fair and equitable contract are convoluted and many, we again ask for your patience and support as we fight in

the best interest of the membership.

EMS

As of the June 26, 2001 hearing before the Board of Supervisors, the intensity of the microscope aimed at EMS has just been turned up a notch. It appears that Supervisors Yee, Newsom and Maxwell were a bit miffed as to how 3 individuals wearing gold were always right, and the 60 plus individuals who appeared before the Body were always wrong. Relying once again on the intelligence of a former Fire Commissioner, I’m no rocket scientist, but I believe that there is trouble in River City.

CLOSING

Stan told me that this is all the space I get in this issue, so I have to close. If there is anything you like in this new format, please tell me. If there is anything you do not like, please tell Tom O’Connor.
