| First and foremost, on behalf of the membership of Local 798, I wish to extend our most heartfelt sympathy to the families of fallen CDF aviators Lars Stratte and Larry Groff. Their tragic death can do nothing less but underscore the unwavering dedication we have for our profession and its inherent dangers. Lars and Larry selflessly gave so that others may live.
IAFF FIREPAC Due to the projected increased longevity of the baby boom generation, Congress is considering several key reforms to Social Security. Among them is mandatory coverage of local government employees. If successful, this would mandate a minimum salary contribution of 6.2% from each member in addition to an equalizing payment from the CCSF. This equates not only to a loss of income, but also to a negative revision of the SFFD budget. A lose-lose proposition. |

| Although we have long felt that action should be taken to make Social Security solvent, it should not be at the expense of the firefighter. Help the IAFF fight the good fight and protect your hard-won benefits in the process. When called upon, make a donation to IAFF FIREPAC. It will help insure that our voices will be heard on Capitol Hill and that our jobs, our safety and our pensions are protected.
Contract My dialog on this item has become quite rhetorical; we arent done yet. In a favorable light, we are approximately 90% complete, tentatively, and with any luck should have a package ready for presentation to the membership in October 2001. Off To The Races Once again, Local 798 is sponsoring a Day at the Races on November 2, 2001 at Bay Meadows in San Mateo. It is an elegant and exciting evening that proves to be enjoyable for the entire family. This event has been a longstanding tradition with Local 798 and we extend to you the invitation to join us. |
