IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger was unanimously elected to the AFL-CIO Executive Council at the council’s Jan. 9 meeting. Schaitberger’s election gives the IAFF a powerful voice at the highest levels of the federation, where policies are made and priorities are set for the labor movement.

“With a seat on the executive council, I’ll work to make sure that the AFL-CIO focuses on and promotes the issues important to the IAFF and its members,” Schaitberger said. “Professional fire fighters and paramedics will have a seat at the table when the labor movement maps out its plans and strategies.”

As a member of the executive council, Schaitberger will serve as a vice president of the AFL-CIO. The motion to seat Schaitberger on the council was made be AFL-CIO President John Sweeney.
