The PHOENIX Society of San Francisco
10th Annual Old Timers’ Night Honors Aitken, Bross, Miles and Murray
On November 14, 2001, the Phoenix Society of San Francisco once again honored four distinguished retired San Francisco Firefighters for outstanding service during their careers in the Department. Firefighter Ernie Aitken, Firefighter Roger Bross, Capt. Tim Miles and Capt. Bill Murray were this year’s recipients as the Society marked the 10th anniversary of this event, bringing the total over the years to 42 veterans. These firefighters, like those before them, were nominated for this special Certificate of Appreciation award by their peers who have many years of service in the Department.

175 family and friends of the four honorees attended the banquet, held at the Spanish Cultural Center on Alemany Blvd. in San Francisco. Included in the group were 26 of the 38 previous recipients who joined their four colleagues for a group photo commemorating the occasion. Once again, Batt. Chief (ret.) Chuck Lee was our Master of Ceremonies for the presentation of the awards. Our thanks again to him for another fine job!

An Assistant Producer from NBC’s Dateline who was in town with a crew filming a documentary segment on the SFFD also attended the dinner. Several interviews were filmed during the evening with firefighters and we hope some of that footage will be shown during the expected February air date!

The Phoenix Society would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the retired and active members of the San Francisco Fire Department who have enthusiastically supported this event for the last 10 years. We appreciate this opportunity to honor “The Best of the Best”.
