TOY PROGRAM FACT SHEET

The San Francisco Fire Fighters Toy Program:

• was established in 1949

• is a non-profit volunteer organization operated by off-duty and retired firefighters and their families

• is sponsored by San Francisco Fire Fighters Local 798

• collects new and gently used toys

• accepts monetary donations for the purchase of new toys, which comprises the majority of the supply

• distributes toys year-round to:

children in homeless shelters and shelters for battered women
children in hospitals
children in protective custody
children of parents in substance abuse programs
children displaced by disaster (floods, fires, etc.)

• receives monetary and toy donations:

at any of San Francisco’s 42 Fire Stations
from many San Francisco corporations and local businesses
from fundraisers and benefits that occur throughout the year

• presented over 200,000 toys to more than 40,000 children in 2003
