Guns and Hoses Charity Tennis Challenge
By Bob Lopez
Another year, another Grand Slam!! On April 17, 2004, the San Francisco Tennis Club hosted the Third Annual Guns and Hoses Charity Tennis Challenge; an annual event that raises monies for charitable non-profit organizations. The recipient organizations assist police and fire families that have suffered a loss of a loved one or endured a catastrophic event.

Over 100 people joined us in making this event so successful. Some participated by playing in the tournament while others came to watch and cheer on their favorite player(s). During the tournament, we had a silent auction going on with wonderful prizes to bid on, such as overnight hotel stays, restaurant packages, baseball game tickets, golf packages at private clubs, vintage wine, and much, much more. In case you felt really lucky, raffle tickets were on sale, with similarly exciting prizes. Chief Hayes-White stopped by the event, purchased some raffle tickets and ended up winning the grand prize, which was a stay at the beautiful Fairmont Hotel. At the end of the tournament, we dined on a fabulous array of food and sampled various wines. It was truly a fun filled event that was enjoyed by all.

The date for our Fourth Annual Guns and Hoses Charity Tennis Challenge is scheduled for April 30, 2005, 4pm., so mark your calendars.

We would like to ask your help in making next year’s tournament even more successful. If anyone has a business or contacts in the hotel, restaurant, beauty, etc. arena, we would greatly appreciate if you could solicit a donation(s) for either our silent auction or raffle. Of course, volunteers are always needed to organize the event, so if you’d like to help, contact Lieutenant Bob Lopez, Station 9.
