ITALIAN HERITAGE PARADE

The SFFD was once again well represented at the 136th celebration of the ITALIAN HERITAGE/COLUMBUS DAY PARADE on October 10th, 2004.

The scores of firefighters, who marched on their day off, received accolades for its’ professional demeanor and family oriented activities. (Note: Pictures on INSIDE BACK COVER.)

SHUCK & SWALLOW

Just as the name implies, teams from the City’s finest restaurants gathered at McCORMICK & KULETO’S SEAFOOD RESTAURANT at Ghiradelli Square to see who can shuck and swallow the most oysters in this fierce and highly coveted showdown.

For the 3rd straight year, General Manager Scott Smith of McCORMICK & KULETO’S, designated the SAN FRANCISCO FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL 798 SURVIVING FAMILIES FUND as the charity to benefit from this first class event.

The contest, which was held on October 5th, 2004, has become a yearly classic, not only for the hysterical competition, but also for the unparalleled oyster and wine tasting that follows the event.

OPERATION GOBBLE

Each year SFFF LOCAL 798 is honored to receive an invitation from the offices of Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante to participate in “OPERATION GOBBLE”, a charitable endeavor to provide turkeys to those in need for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Once again, the San Francisco Food Bank was the host site where 1,500 turkeys, that were donated by Albertsons Stores, were given away to help those less fortunate than us.

My deepest thanks to the members of Stations 25 and 37 who provide the muscle and the professionalism to make this all come together.

SAN FRANCISCO RETIRED FIREFIGHTERS OF SONOMA COUNTY

The 44th Semi-Annual Luncheon of the SAN FRANCISCO RETIRED FIREFIGHTERS OF SONOMA COUNTY was held at the Petaluma Elks Club on Monday, October 4th, 2004.

Each year, on the first Monday of April and the first Monday of October, over 300 active and retired members of the SFFD gather to renew old friendships and share memories.

This function is opened to all firefighters and we encourage you to join us in April of 2005.
