This is part two in a series of three articles attempting to educate our members on what the N.E.R.T. training program is all about.

Happy New Year! Now that you’ve made your New Year’s resolutions, why not make one more. Encourage your friends and family to participate in the training program. It’s free. It’s fun. And it’s our department’s best public relations program. The Winter/Spring Schedule has been released. Our goal is to bring the N.E.R.T. program to all the neighborhoods in the city. We need your help to spread the word to the residents of San Francisco. There are classes scheduled throughout the city in the upcoming months. Why not hand out some flyers (available at the NERT office) while you’re on duty.

1) At your next school drill, hand some flyers out to the principal. Get them interested. Encourage the staff to take NERT Training.

2) At your next R-1 inspection, hand out flyers to the building manager.

3) Why not pass out some flyers to your neighborhood merchants, hardware stores, etc.

4) How about the neighbor that is always peaking into the firehouse. Give them a couple to hand out to their friends.

Flyers are available from the NERT office by calling 558-3456. We all have a responsibility to keep our city safe. Why not promote our own N.E.R.T. program. Remember, the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake was only a wake up call for San Francisco to be more prepared for the next Great Earthquake.

NERT Instructor Theresa Kwan leads the class on the night activities.
NERT Instructor Curt Nielsen sets the live fire demonstration on in Class #6.
NERT Instructor John Choy watches as people participate in the cribbing exercise of Class #6.
