Letter From The President
Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you, all of you, who participated at our memorial tribute to the heroes and victims of September 11th. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we are proud to have had our Union represented in such a dignified and honorable manner on such a memorable day and that our showing, together with the POA, sent a message to the citizens of San Francisco that like our brothers and sisters from FDNY and NYPD that we are there for them.

As I’m sure you all know, an event of this magnitude doesn’t happen overnight. This tribute was planned and organized by our own Sally Casazza, Gail Toki-Woo and Barbara Ashfield, who, along with Kathy Mahoney of the POA and Martha Cohen from the Mayor’s office managed every detail down to the wire. We handed out 5,000 bottles of water, 5,000 Firefighter cards, American flags and buttons. Our

brothers from the MVP Team from the BOE, Jerry Keohane and Mike Walsh who handled the massive flag which hung so valiantly from our own rigs on Post Street. Brendan O’Leary and Willie Durkin got the Pipe Band together at 5:30 that morning and wasn’t that a moving moment when they marched onto the Square. And last but not least, thanks to the great Ray Molinari of our Flag and Honor Guard and his crew who didn’t stop from dawn till dusk. Thanks guys.

The Pension Parity campaign is in full operation. Thanks to those of you who showed up at our kick-off at the Irish Cultural Center where we, along with the POA managed to hand deliver 50,000 pieces of literature. As all of you know we have on-going precinct maps and campaign signs here at the Union Hall every day. Drop by after work pick-up your materials.

Going forward, we have some important campaign related dates to remember.

Come out and pick-up walking piece postcards and give-away magnets. Our massive get-out-the-vote dates are:

October 26 from 9am to 11am at the Irish Cultural Center (45th & Sloat)
November 2nd from 9am to 11am at the POA (510 7th Street)
November 5th from 5am to 8am at Ireland’s 32 (3920 Geary)

Phone banks are up and running at the POA. Speak with your Station Steward about manning these and for dates and times when your station is due.

Remember, our ballot measure vote is coming up on November 5th. Don’t wait to be asked to volunteer. Take the lead and feel honorable about actively participating in our victory on November 5th. And remember, don’t assume anything, double check everything.

Fraternally,
John F. Hanley,
President, Local 798
